Lord of the Animals film series Boreales Production Company For the past five years, an original and creative film series has been flowing from the Boreales Production Company based in Paris, France. Headed by Frederic Fougea, Boreales has produced more than a dozen half-hour documentaries exploring the ancestral and timeless relationships between human beings and animals. Entitled "Lord of the Animals", the series has produced a number of award-winning films which have been seen at the Banff Festival of Mountain Films, on the world tour, and at many major film and television festivals world-wide. On Saturday, November 2, tribute will be paid to the Boreales production team, including screenings of their best works:
"The Pelican of Ramzan the Red" The mohana people have lived on the Indus River for more than five thousand years. They dwell on boats and move with the seasons. They have a passion for birds, for their grace and their beauty. Each family has their own bird garden, where they can talk with their birds at leisure. The centuries old rivalry between two families is symbolized by the capture of the most difficult and prized bird to catch; the pelican.
The Minang people live on the shores of Lake Maninjao inside a crater formed by three volcanoes on the island of Sumatra. They are surrounded by coconut trees and they live by the coconut harvest. But they have not climbed the trees for many years now as they have found an ideal partner in the monkey. This is the story of Bourhan, a retired, sixty-year old monkey trainer who is considered a master. He has recently inherited a new monkey called Bobo. Although Bobo provides a challenge to both Bourhan's training skills and the peace and harmony in his household, he eventually wins everyone over, as well as the local coconut harvesting competition!
In Morocco, the Slooghi is considered a unique creature due to its grace, speed and hunting ability. This is the story of the slooghi named Jnah, his master Hossein, and the ultimate destiny for Jnah as the slooghi worthy of mating with the royal Zia, slooghi belonging to Kai, the lord and master of this land.
Everyone knows that specially trained pigs are the best truffle hunters. In the Provence region of France, a few elderly men live on the truffle harvest by training a pig who becomes their working partner for the season. Gaston has been raising and training pigs for sixty years. He has chosen to keep one as a pet and has named him Kiki. Weighing in at over two hundred kilos, Kiki has a prodigious nose, and an insatiable appetite for truffles. Although this combination should make Kiki the ideal truffle hunting partner for Gaston, it is Kiki's uncontrollable gluttony that brings Gaston endless trouble!
