North America's Top 100 Family Resorts
Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale (AZ)
Arizona's Best Family Resorts

By Candyce H. Stapen

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess | Four Seasons Scottsdale | Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey | The Phoenician | The Wigwam Resort & Golf Club | Westin Kierland Resort & Spa | Enchantment Resort

The Spread:
Fairmont's Scottsdale Princess is an AAA Five Diamond resort set against the picturesque backdrop of Arizona's McDowell Mountains. With 651 rooms, ample meeting space, and a top-rated golf course (site of the PGA Tour's FBR Open), the property understandably attracts conventioneers.

But with five pools and special family activities, the Scottsdale Princess also caters to kids and their parents.

Plunked down in the middle of the bustling resort, the 44,000-square-foot Willow Stream Spa creates an oasis-like retreat. It was ranked a top-five spa in the U.S. by Time magazine and number eight by the readers of Travel + Leisure. While your kids are busy at the children's program, workout at the gym, swim in the little-used rooftop pool, lunch in the Zen-like garden deck, and indulge with your choice of waterfall therapy, wraps, treatments, and massages.

Why Families Love It:
It's hard to get kids (and adults) out of the Sonoran Splash Pool, a watery oasis with fountains, a zero-entry side for tots, and two slides to zip down. When you do finally hit land, go fishing at the lagoon ($5 fee), play bocce ball on the lawn, and practice putting on the golf green. At the complimentary Kid's Club, ages five to 12 go on morning fitness walks, play badminton, and wiggle through hula-hoop contests (8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; the full-day program has a fee of $12 for lunch and snacks). Ages 13 to 17 have the Teen Hang-out, whose complimentary high-tech accoutrements include a 42-inch plasma TV plus 100 DVD movies and computers for catching up on email. Hours vary throughout the year, but the Hang-out room is generally open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Special Activities & Events:
Watch complimentary "dive-in" movies with your kids around the pool on Friday and Saturday nights from mid-May to mid-September.
