Sugarbush Resort
FRESH DIGS: After a day at the X-Team Ski Camp, kick back in the new Clay Brook at Sugarbush (courtesy, Sugarbush Resort)

X-Team Ski Camp at Sugarbush Resort, VT (February 8–10)
Attendees to this clinic will get schooled on techniques (and Sugarbush's finest lines) by a superstar team of some of the world's best skiers, from John and Dan Egan to Eric DesLauriers and Dean Decas. "We have been doing this for 17 years, and we operate like an old rock band," says Egan, who skied for Warren Miller for more than a decade and has logged first descents all over the world. The X-team's focus is teaching the secrets of all-terrain skiing. Participants ski in level-appropriate groups with instructors aiming to target each person's "freak-out level" and move them beyond it. "We define this as the point at which you fall out of repetition and have to traverse left or right of your normal pole plant to make the next turn," he says. An X-team-developed curriculum helps skiers rapidly make the next proper plant through a series of drills. Three days of lift tickets and coached skiing, plus two days of video analysis are included ($1,099; http://www.skiclinics.com/xteamskiclinics.htm).

Ross Powers Snowboard Camp at Okemo Mountain Resort, VT (March 24–26)
Olympic gold medalist and snowboarding phenom Ross Powers, along with other top snowboard pros, will school attendees in this clinic on everything from riding rails and pipes to freeriding. Small groups of five to ten boarders will be matched with a coach during the fast-paced, three-day camp—Powers will rotate through each of the groups to provide solid tips. New for the 2007/2008 season, this camp is targeted to intermediate and advanced snowboarders, ages 10 to 25. It also benefits the Ross Powers Foundation, a non-profit foundation for athletes with financial hardships. Owner of more halfpipe titles than any other rider in history, including a gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and a 1998 Olympic bronze medal, Powers now has his sights set on making the U.S. snowboardcross team and competing in the 2010 Games. He is also the official Snowboard Ambassador at Okemo Mountain Resort, where he promotes snowboarding and the outdoor winter sports lifestyle (call for price; (802) 228-1600, www.okemo.com).

Families First, Mount Sunapee Resort, NH (all season)
Families that want to learn to ski or snowboard no longer have to divide and conquer. The award-winning learning program at Mount Sunapee allows families with kids ages eight and up to learn to ski and snowboard together and check out the fun beginner terrain at this New Hampshire resort. The instructors here say this popular lesson format builds confidence—and good memories—more quickly. Those family units with both aspiring skiers and boarders in the fold will be assigned two instructors for the session. Three weekday and ten weekend sessions are offered and include a two-hour lesson, specially designed rental skis that help speed up the learning process, and an unlimited lift ticket to the beginner area here ($75). Discounted two- and three-day clinics are available with all the same benefits, plus a few added bonuses ($75 for two days; Mount Sunapee Families First website).
