Family Travel: Costa Rica
Where the Rainforest Meets the Sea (cont.)
Access and Resources

Getting There:
Nature Air (800.235.9272; www.natureair.com) and Sansa (www.flysansa.com) have numerous daily flights to Quepos from both airports in San Jose. By car, take the winding and often slow highway over the mountains to Jaco. It's another hour drive south to Quepos and Manuel Antonio.

Lodging:
Nestled in the verdant hillside, Si Como No (www.sicomono.com) was one of the first eco-resorts to open in Costa Rica. Owner Jim Damalas caters to families and couples by offering separate pools, but everyone gets to indulge in the morning buffet of fresh fruit, omelets, and pancakes. Many of the 60 spacious suites overlook the ocean. Prices range from $165 for a double room in the off-season to $310 for a honeymoon suite in high season.

Perched on a sliver of land overlooking the rocky outcroppings of the Pacific, it's hard to beat Hotel Parador's (www.hotelparador.com) spectacular views, especially when you're sitting in their infinity pool or sucking down a mojito at their bar. Dinner is another treat, with fresh mahi mahi or angus steak served at the open-air La Galeria restaurant. There's also a tennis court, gym, and spa on premises. The 108 units start at $145 in the off-season.

Dining:
You know you've reached El Avion when you see the plane out front. Walk through the fuselage, now a bar, to the outside terrace that overlooks the green countryside and the Pacific. Then get ready to dine on a casual, tasty meal of whole red snapper or steak. There's also a kid's menu for the under-eight set.

Home to some of the best fishing in the world, including tasty yellowfin tuna and wahoo, how can you not get fresh sushi and sashimi that cuts like butter at Tropical Sushi? Try their crocodile roll, a mix of eel, crab, and avocado. Located in Quepos.

Outfitters:
If you're looking for a naturalist to guide you through Manuel Antonio or want to try ziplining through the canopy, go with the highly reputable Iguana Tours (www.iguanatours.com). They also offer whitewater rafting on the Savegre and Naranjo rivers, and kayaking on the many coves found within the rugged Manuel Antonio coastline.

Quepos is also a hub for deep-sea fishermen. Try hooking a sailfish, marlin, or tuna with one of the most trusted names in the angling world, Costa Mar Dream Catcher (www.costamarsportfishing.com).
