Honeymoon in Santorini
LOVER’S PARADISE: Honeymoon in Santorini and you may never leave (PhotoDisc)

Rome, Italy
While some leave their hearts in San Francisco, other travelers alight their passions in Rome. Exhibit public displays of affection in the romantic Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, or Piazza de Spagna. Linger over an espresso doppio; savor a bowl of gelato; wander the gardens at Villa Borghese. This is the land of Botticelli and Leonardo Da Vinci, of Michelangelo and his David—so you and your lover will fit right in.

Wine Tasting through Burgundy and Provence, France
Spend two to eight nights cruising through the heart of France’s delicious wine regions. From the Cote du Rhone’s Croizes Hermitage and Van Gogh’s Provencal lavender landscapes to the papal palace of Avignon and the cobblestone quarters of Lyon, these trips offer a multitude of ways to drink in the district. Enjoy wine tastings, perhaps at the vineyards of Beaujolais and Maconnais or the capital of Burgundy, Beaune.

Santorini, Greece
There’s no need to island hop when you land here. Nothing speaks of an archetypal Mediterranean holiday like this dazzlingly-white-washed island. where sky, sea, and domed-buildings are blindingly blue, where villages perch on cliffs and houses tumble into the ocean, where beaches are made of black and red sand… It’s all impossibly dreamy, this volcanic crescent in the Cylclades.

Prague, the Czech Republic
The bridges over Prague’s Vltava River offer arguably the most romantic scene of any European city. With dozens of church spires silhouetted in the background, you’ll want to linger at dawn or dusk on Charles Bridge, lined with baroque statues and gas lanterns. It’s easy for free spirits to ponder big questions in a city once known as the Bohemian Kingdom, whose castle dates back to 870 and overall costs remain refreshing light compared to Western Europe. After putting things in perspective—and perhaps executing a little romantic alchemy on the castleground’s famed Golden Row, hoist a pint of pilsner in the Old Town Square at night. And by September, the hordes of backpacking students should dwindle to a trickle.

The Beach Village at Molokai Ranch, HI
These eco-friendly platform tents, situated on a dramatic beach accessible to few visitors, are homey but exotic. No mini-fridges here, but there is an ice chest filled with soft drinks. There’s not even electricity, but solar panels heat the shower water, and candlepower and the brightest stars imaginable make for deliciously long evenings. Enjoy clothes-optional privacy on your secluded deck, but remember the walls (or lack thereof) are thin! (888.627.8082; www.molokairanch.com)

Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown, MA
After most summertime families depart for school, this Martha’s Vineyard resort reverts to a romantic getaway for adults. Executive Chef Ed Gannon lures sophisticated palates with deft and dazzling seafood creations. Guests can also choose from a variety comfortable mix-and-match fish-and-sauce options. Wine pairing is perfect; service is impeccable. Walk out the sliding doors of your upscale beachy guestroom, across a broad lawn, to the dramatic South Beach, one of the island’s longest and best. (866.335.1133; www.winnetu.com)

Muir Woods National Monument, Mill Valley, CA
Contemplate the closest thing to eternity on earth in a quiet forest on the edge of America’s sexiest city. Go on a weekday and hike as far as your legs will take you. Not only do the towering coastal redwoods smell ancient, their circumference implies wisdom beyond reproach. Let their steadfastness be your guide if your heart loses faith.

Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, CT
Pre-slammer Martha Stewart couldn’t have done a better job conjuring this country house hotel if she tried. Although it may seem heretical, cruise and browse the Litchfield Hills before the peak of leaf peeping season to avoid traffic snarls. You’ll also be able to snag primo seats at coveted restaurants without a hassle. Meanwhile, back at the inn and spa, personalized service practically knows no bounds and décor will soothe your weary senses. (860.868.9466; www.mayflowerinn.com)

Montreal, Canada
Okay, guys, it’s time to flip convention and introduce some exciting underwear you’re your apparel. No matter your orientation, Montreal designers rule with some sexy underwear boutiques for your exultation and edification. Check out Priape (514.521.8451; www.priape.com), which supports men in all sizes and shapes. Browse Gregg Homme (514.948.3077; www.gregg.ca) and Intenseif (514.373.5726; www.intenseif.com), with products for jocks as well as metrosexuals. Who said Victoria had to be the only one with secrets?

Dine at Twenty-Eight Atlantic in Chatham, MA
Overlooking the oh-so Pleasant Bay and ensconced at the first-class Wequassett Inn, this elegant dining room knows few peers on Cape Cod. No longer do you have to choose between fine cuisine and fine views. (Settle in well before sunset.) Service is gracious, the regional American seafood dishes are ambitious and artfully executed, and it’s all presented on Limoges china. This is the apex of special occasion dining. (800.225.7125; www.wequassett.com)
