Q&A: Hampton Sides

A winner of the 2002 PEN USA Award and author of three books, "Ghost Soldiers," "Americana," and most recently, "Blood and Thunder: An Epic of the American West," Hampton Sides's work has run the gauntlet for Outside. For his October 2007 assignment, Sides returned to his native south to cross the Mississippi River—by swimming it—for the feature story "Anyone for a Dip?". He talks to Anthony Cerretani about the assignment and his career as a best-selling author.
