Do trekkers climb past base camp on Everest?
Question: What is the difference between a trekker and a climber? Are trekkers hikers or low-altitude climbers? Susan Allen is shown in a Hall group expedition photo and is listed as a trekker, but I don't remember a mention of her in Into Thin Air? Is this because as a trekker she didn't climb beyond base camp?

Jon: Dear Jan,

Suze Allen, a young trekker from Sydney, Australia, accompanied our team from Kathmandu to Base Camp, but she never intended to climb, and did not go above Base Camp. The term trekker is synonymous with hiker.
