Q: I was introduced to you and Outside by my best friend/now sister-in-law, Jo Ringnalda. She went to school with you at some point (I can't recall if it was in Bend or Monmouth, Oregon). I am compelled to inform you that after reading your words and those of your peers, I'm reminded why Outside magazine is the only subscription I renew year after year and Outside Online the only Web site I frequent. I have not yet read Into the Wild but I envision myself captivated until the wee hours, turning that last page and exclaiming "that was a fucking great book!"

Please keep that "reckless innocence" in check as you ascend to new heights so as not to deprive the world of your immense talent.
