Jon Krakauer: Into the Wild

February 19, 1996

How is his family doing? Where is the scholarship fund?
What did Chris weigh before he began to starve?
Wasn't death the predictable outcome of such naiveté?
This confirms my favorite magazine and Web site
If you'd given him a ride, what would you have said to him?
Will you be presenting in the East and Midwest?

Will you be presenting in the East and Midwest?
Q: There are many fans of both Jon Krakauer and the out of doors on the East Coast. When (if ever) will you be presenting here, specifically around Ohio?

A: Yes, I know that there are many, many hard-core outdoor enthusiasts east of the Mississippi. One of my friends in Seattle is an awesomely talented rock climber, name of Mike Smith, who spent his misguided youth in Ohio (as did my colleague at Outside magazine, David Quammen, who happens to be a way serious whitewater paddler and telemark skier in addition to being a kick-ass writer).

For the record, in January my book tour landed me in such Eastern cities as Atlanta, Washington, Baltimore, New York, and Chicago (not that that does you a whole lot of good at this point). Presently, Random House/Villard is in the process of extending the tour to include stops in Missoula, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Ann Arbor, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and maybe Los Angeles, probably for the week of March 11-18. The exact dates and times for these reading and/or slide presentations will be posted on Outside Online any day now. But take my word for it, dude: My slide show isn't worth driving all the way from Ohio to Ann Arbor to see. You'd have a much better time staying home and watching, say, a rerun of "The Simpsons."

[Editor's note: We continue to post additions to Jon's tour schedule whenever more details become available.]
