Question: Jan, I am an average road and mountain bike rider who skis, snowboards, and runs to stay in shape for the different seasons. What do you do to stay in shape and keep your workouts from getting boring? Good luck this season.

Jan: During my racing seasons, I am on the bike most of the time, except for occasional runs. Come fall and through the winter, I like to try everything! Keep it fun and do things you don't get to do during the summer. I also do weight training, running, cross-country skiing, swimming ... and riding the trainer if it is too cold or wet
outside to ride. In order to not get bored, I like to try to do things with other people a couple times a week. Riding the turbo trainer can get boring, but listen to music, put yourself in front of a mirror, and challenge yourself with intervals or short efforts. Intervals are hard, but they do make the time go by quicker. And last but not least, take time with your
friends and family ... that will always keep you from getting bored. Oh yeah ... have you tried night riding or riding on snowmobile trails? It is a blast!
