Question: Do you feel that mountain bikers should be allowed in the same class as riders on cyclocross bikes? They are different sports and should remain so! Just one person's opinion and a mountain biker's at that, but I am intrigued by the sport of cyclocross and feel that it should remain true to its origins. Also, do you see the sport
growing in the U.S. or just in certain regions? I know it is being talked about more here.
John Ford
Jan: I do think mountain bikes should be allowed in the same event as cross bikes, except for national championships. Until there are enough people on cross bikes, I don't think we should inhibit anyone from trying the sport. Maybe when there gets to be too many mountain bikes, a promoter should make another category for mountain bikes.
Until they make a rule, the option is ours, but I would like to think I do cyclocross for the challenge it offers.
I do believe cyclocross is growing. I am not sure how it is growing nationally, however, I do see larger fields in New England and Colorado. I think it is a great sport and I hope to see more people giving it a try. It adds greater variety to your training and doesn't require as much time.
