How can I gain skill and confidence on more technical trails?
Question: How would an experienced road rider but novice mountain biker gain skill and confidence on more technical trails?

Keith Constable

Jan: Skills and confidence come from practice and being on your bike. I practice positive visualization. I listen to music to get me relaxed and ready to take chances. Envision yourself clearing a technical section ... and breathe. Try to keep a relaxed upper body and let your bike flow beneath you. Always scan what is in front of you, but keep your eyes focused farther ahead. Flutter your brakes instead of using a death grip. Also be in a bigger gear when going through rough technical stuff ... and pedal. Momentum is your friend. Practice and don't fear falling. Crashing is meritable, just get back up and go. Whistle while you ride!
