Question: What are your thoughts on using a mountain bike instead of a traditional cyclocross bike in a cyclocross race? Looks like from the pictures I see that the Europeans are still racing with 'cross bikes. Any comments?

Jan: I think regional events should be open to cyclocross and mountain bike frames. I want people to be able to give cyclocross racing a shot, even if they can't afford adding a cross bike to their collection. For nationals, I would like to see them implement a rule that a national champion is on a bike with 700c wheels and drop bars. Have
a class for 700c drop bar bikes and a class that is open to mountain bikes.
The Euros have courses where it is an advantage to be on a cross frame with 700c wheels. The larger-diameter wheel provides greater distance for each pedal stroke.
Hey, cyclocross is different than road racing and mountain bike racing, so I'd love for everyone to be able to have a cross bike as well!
