Tyler Sharman answers ruling with bronze
A bronze medal was Lucy Tyler Sharman's reply on Sunday to being ruled out of the Olympic pursuit.

"They have not seen the last of me," said the U.S.-born rider who is now set on competing in the world track championships at Manchester next month after finishing third in the 24-km points final.

When fellow Australian Kathy Watt, the Olympic road race champion in Barcelona four years ago, was dropped from the 3,000-meter pursuit in favor of Tyler Sharman, Watt took her grievance to a tribunal, and won.

Tyler Sharman had practised close to the world 3,000 meters record, and that swayed selectors, but Watt claimed that training times did not count.

Her argument was accepted and the decision was overturned. It meant that Watt contested the pursuit on the Stone Mountain Park track.

She reached the last eight as the slowest qualifier and was then thrashed by 12 seconds by the eventual Olympic championAntonella Bellutti of Italy.

"Kathy's 3:44 time was not that admirable. I used to do that kind of time when I was a sprinter," said Tyler Sharman. "I did not come to Atlanta for the points race, but I hope that my performance will now turn opinions my way."
