Storm sends yachts fleeing for safety
A storm with winds gusting up to 30 knots forced Olympic yachts to flee for safety on Sunday, July 21.

With medal competition due to begin on Monday, nearly the entire Olympic fleet had turned out in the hope of a full dress rehearsal.

At first there was little wind running through the three Olympic courses and the yachts were left to mill about near the starting lines.

Only one race was completed before the storm rolled in.

Some Star class competitors lowered their sails to avoid damage and most of the other boats raced to the safety of the day marina.
