The WeatherEdge was this year's biggest surprise. Less than $120, pit zips, a fully functioning hood? There really isn't a catch, though. It's every bit as waterproof as jackets that cost twice as much and, while it's not quite as breathable as the pricier jackets here, all you have to do when things start getting steamy is crack the big, easy-access pit zips. As part of Eddie Bauer's "365 system," the shell has extra zippers for attaching a compatible fleece vest ($30) or jacket ($50). Testers were split on that feature's usefulness, as some felt it was one they'd never use.
