Telluride is home to the Galloping Goose, the first city bus in the country to run on B100 biodiesel.
Green Fuel All-Stars
By Jason Daley

City of Berkeley: In the summer of 2003, the famously progressive city of Berkeley, California, took another green leap forward when it switched 180 of its city-owned diesel vehicles to B100 (100 percent biodiesel) fuel. Berkeley is the largest municipality in the U.S. to use pure biodiesel and plans to switch the remaining 20 vehicles in its fleet (now running on B20) to B100 once they figure out how to deliver the stuff to fire vehicles in remote sections of the town. www.ci.berkeley.ca.us

City of Telluride: This past summer, Telluride, Colorado, launched the Galloping Goose, a refurbished 1983 BlueBird bus and the first city bus in the country to run on B100. The idea was a collaboration between local activist Charris Ford's Grassolean project (featured in Outside's September 2003 story, "Grease is the Word") and the city transportation department. If the pilot project works out (and it's already quite popular), the city hopes to start filling up more of its buses with B100 in the coming year. www.grassolean.com

San Diego Regional Transportation Center: Last July, the Pearson Ford dealership in San Diego opened the Regional Transportation Center on the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and I-15. The 86,000-square foot building is designed as a hub for all alternative energy vehicles and includes an alternative vehicles showroom, service center, and rental station. In addition, there's a 24-hour fueling station including biodiesel pumps, the first E-85 (85 percent ethanol ) pump on the West Coast, compressed natural gas, ultra low-sulfur diesel, three grades of conventional gasoline, and an electrical charging station. www.rtc4afv.com
