    When To Go: Year-round

    Difficulty: Easy to moderate

    Travel Advisory: If you're not a certified scuba diver, arrange to arrive a day early to take a resort course (about $100) in Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays.

    High/Low Points: Swimming with giant sea turtles on the Whitsundays' fringe reefs. Brushing up against a stinging tree in Eungella--you'll feel the effects for months.

CHINA: Cycling The Southern Countryside
