News for Adventurous Travelers, February 1997

Bulletins

Catalina Cleanup
Catalina Island's Avalon Harbor is normally off-limits to divers because of heavy boat traffic. But on February 22, it will open for the 17th annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup. Last year, divers picked up 9,363 pounds of underwater trash, including TVs, vacuum cleaners, and golf balls. Cost is $25 per diver, with all proceeds benefiting the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy Divers. For information, call 310-348-4750.

Sister Shred
Distaff boarders will dominate the slopes at Sugarbush during the Vermont resort's Women-Only Snowboard Camps, February 28-March 2 and March 13-16. The $675 price covers lift tickets, coaching, food, and lodging. Call 800-552-5065 or 802-583-3007 for information.

Writes of Passage
Ever take a surreptitious dip in Venice's Grand Canal? Then you might have the makings of a prizewinning travel story. Travelers' Tales, a publisher of travel anthologies, will award round-trip airfare to Milan to the writer of the funniest, most illuminating true story about travel in Italy. Entries, which can't exceed 2,000 words, must be received by February 28. Call 800-998-9938 for details.
