Yurt Alert
Oregon has gone Mongolian, installing yurts in eight coastal state campgrounds. But nomads never had it this good: Each of the 16-foot-diameter, canvas-covered structures has a plywood floor, electricity, a skylight, and bunk beds. The fee is $25 per night for five, $5 extra for each additional person, and you can even pay by credit card. Call 800-452-5687.
Wallet Aid
A new, updated version of the Sierra Club's "Mountaineering First Aid and Rescue" card is once again available--for just a nickel. Emergency procedures for administering first aid, reporting accidents, organizing rescue, and assisting with evacuations are outlined on the card, which folds down to wallet size. To obtain one, send five cents in a self-addressed, stamped envelope to
Sierra Rescue Card, Box 1795, Whitefish, MT 59937.
