Bulletins

Going Ape
If hanging out with orangutans in the Borneo rainforest is your idea of a vacation, you're in luck: Bolder Adventures plans four trips this summer to the Camp Leakey Orangutan Research Station, where participants will assist the world's foremost orangutan expert, Birute Galdikas, with her research. Trips depart in July and August; the $2,000 land cost is tax-deductible. Call 800-642-2742.

Women Who Run
Women training for their first triathlon have Terry Schneider, a top-level Ironman contender, to egg them on. Her third annual women's triathlon training clinic, held near Santa Cruz, California, starts May 15 and runs two nights each week for eight weeks, just in time for the Danskin San Jose Triathlon on July 9. The cost is $275. Call 408-688-0620.

Flotsom Race
In Greenbelt, Maryland, they consider cardboard boats seaworthy--or at least seaworthy enough for 12 teams to compete in the Cardboard Kayak Race, held May 14 on the Chesapeake. Teams will be given materials and 45 minutes to construct the kayaks. The race is part of the Chesapeake PaddleFest at Elk Neck State Park. Call 703-968-9047.
