Andean Digs
In the wake of recent finds along Peru's northern coast, most notably the Royal Tombs of Sipan, Wilderness Travel has orchestrated an Archaeology of Peru Conference, to be held July 4-9 in Chiclayo. Eleven scholars, including Thor Heyerdahl, will lecture and lead field trips to important excavation sites. The fee is $1,595 per person; call 800-368-2794.

Sculling School
Learn to row, or refine your skills, on pristine lakes in Maine's Acadia National Park. The Acadia Sculling Centre, based in nearby Bar Harbor, offers two-night, two-day summer packages for $290 per person, including lodging, breakfast and lunch, and two two-hour on-water sessions per day.
