Well, if Nice Guys Finish Last...


A late-night incident in Florence last March put the close on Alberto Tomba's remarkable statline for the '95-'96 ski season: three World Cup slalom victories, two world championship gold medals, and two clobbered photographers. This time, the playful champ KO'd Riccardo Schirmacher with a karate kick to the neck. Tomba apparently offered an apology upon seeing Schirmacher motionless on the ground, but to no avail. The treated-and-released photographer said that he, like fellow battered paparazzo Aldo Martinuzzi, would see La Bomba in court.
