Wheeling in Tuva

Asian Pacific Adventures is now leading 17-day mountain bike trips to the arid steppes and forests of the Russian region of Tuva, in southern Siberia. Trips leaving July 31 and August 10 will catch a raucous annual festival. Land cost is $2,996 per person; participants must bring their own bikes. Call 800-825-1680 (in California, 213-935-3156).

Virginia Is For . . .

. . .volunteers. If you have an altruistic streak and are skilled in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, or landscaping, consider this: Some 20 state parks in Virginia will give you a week of free camping this summer in exchange for 40 hours of volunteer labor to help repair and maintain park facilities. Contact Paige Tucker at 804-371-2675.

Maryland en Masse

When the seventh annual Cycle Across Maryland tour kicks off on July 23, some 1,500 cyclists will begin pounding 320 miles of pavement from Oakland east to Baltimore. The seven-day trip is fully supported with meals, medical staff, sag wagons, and frequent water and snack stops. Registration is $175 per person; a full meal plan is $90. For an application, call 800-842-2265.
