Stargazing
By David N. Schramm

This is an excellent month for viewing the constellation Cygnus, often called the Northern Cross, which will be almost directly overhead. Cygnus, by the way, is the location of the first and most likely candidate for a black hole. The full Moon will occur on the 12th. Mars will be in the constellation Virgo most of the month and will set in the west in the late evening. Jupiter will be overhead at dusk, and Mercury will be faintly visible in the morning sky during the first half of the month. The new Moon will occur on the 27th, leaving an especially dark sky for viewing the Delta Aquarid meteor shower, which will peak at midnight on the 28th.
