Bulletins

Outback by Rail
Australia's luxuriously refurbished Indian Pacific rail line is now making biweekly Sydney-to-Perth runs. The train traverses mountains, red deserts, and the habitats of such wildlife as wedge-tailed eagles and emus. Fares for the three-day, 2,700-mile trip range from $302 to $937, including meals. Call 800-423-2880 for reservations.

All-Sport Ecuador
Backroads, a cycling-tour company, will launch its first multisport vacations in December. Typical offering: a 12-day excursion to Ecuador that includes hiking in the Andes, sailing and snorkeling around the Gal¤pagos, and a landing on one of the islands to see giant tortoises, iguanas, and blue-footed boobies. The trip leaves January 18 and costs $3,893. Call 800-462-2848 for details.

Sail to the Bitter End
Improve your tacking and jibing while catching the British Virgin Islands' late-autumn rays. This November and December, professional racer John Kolius and his staff will teach competition, extreme, and beginner sailing at the Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda. Prices for the five-day clinics range from $1,799 to $2,499. Call 800-276-7245 for information.
