Ear to the Ground

HIS LEFT FOOT
Endurance mountain biker BRETT WOLFE, 33, who lost his right leg in a motorcycle accident in 1990, heads to Germany in late July to tackle the TransAlp Challenge, a 360-mile, eight-day race that climbs 59,000 vertical feet. And after that? He'll start training for an assault on the one-hour road-cycling distance record.

MARS ROCKS

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THERE
You can't buy it, but soon you may be able to scale New York's historic Brooklyn Bridge. Mayor MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG is reportedly working with an Australian company called BridgeClimb to bring legal climbing to GothamÕs 272-foot-tall landmark span.

EXTREMELY FABULOUS
Yachties and dirtbags alike descended on Monte Carlo last May for the third annual Laureus World Sports Awards, a black-tie-and-crampons affair that bills itself as the Oscars of the sporting world. Nominees included LANCE ARMSTRONG for World Sportsman of the Year and WILL GADD for Alternative Sportsman of the Year. Awards were presented by MORGAN FREEMAN. CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, and HEIDI KLUM.
