Scott Fischer returns to Everest

The world now knows of the tragedy on Mount Everest last May. It was a gripping story that unfolded on these pages for several months, from the exciting days packing and planning in Seattle to the agonizing struggle to lay Scott Fischer's body to rest high up on the mountain.

The climbing community continues to wrestle with the underlying questions of risk and responsibility. And in an attempt to sort through the complex issues and emotions, Jon Krakauer has authored the definitive story about the deadliest days on the tallest mountain.

During the expedition, our correspondents at Everest base camp filled frequent reports using all available
means including satellite phones, fax, and courier.
