Men's and Women's Open Canoes and Squirt Boats
Open canoe is a classic style of canoeing without a spray skirt. A competitor must be kneeling and must use a single-blade. Air bags are placed in the canoe to keep as much water out as possible. Because of the high volume in this craft, it is hard to achieve vertical.

A squirt boat is a low volume boat where extreme moves can be made in small water features. Often times, it is a squirt boater's goal to go under the water rather than to stay on top.

Men's K-1
Competitors sit in a closed kayak and use a double-bladed paddle. The boat is shorter and has less volume than the normal river running kayak. Volume is concentrated in the cockpit with less volume at the ends, which make it easier for the boat to go vertical.
