Hope
Del came! She came on the 29th but didn't get to our house until 6:30 pm. The next day we went on a walk to the back shore of Green's Island where we gathered tons of clams and mussels for lunch. We cooked the clams and mussels on our new outback stove. After lunch, we sat and talked about a smaller trip to do before going to Baffin. The trip we planned is to go to the White Mountains from July 14 to 17, where we will hike on the Wild River and then up Black Angel trail to Carter Dome. From there, we will hike down the Carter Moriah trail to the Moriah Brooke trail and then back to the Wild River. On this trip we will try out our gear and get ready for the BIG TRIP. That night we cooked up some of the food which was sent to us by Cascade. We wanted to try out the new ovens and see what foods we want to take to Baffin with us. The next morning we looked at some of the maps that Del brought and found out that we are going to walk past a 1,800-foot waterfall that is right on the Arctic Circle! Del had to leave the next day so we went to Vinalhaven to show Del our "office" and have lunch, then Del got on the one o'clock ferry to Rockland.
I had talked to Del so many times on the phone that when she came it felt like I already knew her! I think that we are all going to get along really well on this trip, and probably by the end of the trip we will feel like we have always known each other.
