K2's unclimbed North Ridge

Having returned home to Poland after a difficult two months at K2 base camp, Piotr Pustelnik recalls the hardship of his successful summit day.

After a slow, difficult trip home, our K2 correspondent R.D. Caughron has filed his report on the troubles at Base Camp and on the mountain.

For the team, it was a success, as five of ten expedition members summited, though they did so via the standard route on the north side rather than the unclimbed north ridge as they had hoped. For the individuals who were unable to make the top, however, it was a great dissapointment. Caughron reports on the problems of communication, provision, and weather that made the climb memorable.

Our correspondent and climbing team member, R.D. Caughron,
will provide up-to-date reports of the team's progress.
