Ed Viesturs and the 8K quest

Update from Ed Viesturs' Everest base camp
Monday, April 29, at 8:15 p.m. local time

They've been up on the mountain more than ten days doing filming. They were delayed by the weather, by high winds. But the weather is beautiful now.

Ed went up to the yellow band and came back down to stay at Camp III. The rest of the team is now at Camp II tonight. And then they will be coming down Tuesday for a day of rest.

Apparently there are about 50 Sherpas up there fixing the route to high camp. It's an army of Sherpas from all the expeditions.

The Swedish climber, 29-year-old Goran Kropp, is leaving tonight. He has climbed without any support. They are going to film his climb from an airplane.

The IMAX effort is going well. I think David Breashears is very pleased with the conditions he's found between Camp II and Camp III, and then the area around Camp III.

It seems that the morale is quite good and everyone is healthy except for an occasional headache or cough.

I think they are very much looking forward to coming down.

They should be down here tomorrow afternoon.

The weather seems very good up top. A little bit windy. But they did send the army of Sherpas up today to fix the route up.
