Family VacationsTraveling with Your PetsTaking Road Trips by Candyce H. Stapen
Page: So now you know how to bunk your four-pawed mate, but what about getting him or her there? Follow these stress-busting tips for you and your pet, and the destination (and the journey) will be remembered for the right reasons. Acclimate your pets ahead of time to buses, blaring horns, and the noise of traffic. Walk your dog on well-trafficked streets. Get your pet comfortable with long car rides by taking him for one- to two-hour drives several times before your big trip. Stop frequently en route for walks and water. But remember: Always keep your dog on a leash and don't' allow kitties to roam. Never leave your pets alone in the car. They get nervous and the temperature in the car rises to dangerous levels quickly in warm weather, even with the windows cracked. Use a dog carrier or crate for small dogs. They'll be safer and feel more secure. Page: |
